2nd Sport Administration Course – 2011

The second Sport Administration Course for year 2011 was conducted by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka from 13th to 16th December at the Olympic House, Colombo 7. Out of 110 applicants, 46 persons who are involved in sport administration by profession and 14 undergraduates who are learning sport management at University of Sabaragamuwa were selected for the course after an interview. At the end of the four-day course 44 participants were eligible for award of Olympic Solidarity certificates.
The course was conducted by a panel of six resource personnel including four National Course Directors recognised by the IOC, namely Mr. B.L.H. Perera, Mr. Maxwell de Silva, Gp. Capt. Nalin De Silva & Mrs. Olivia Gamage, and two ASMC 2009/2010 qualified facilitators, namely Mr. Nishanthe Piyasena & Brig. T.F. Meedin. In addition, two guest lecturers were also invited to cover areas on Financial Management & Budgeting and Sport Medicine & Anti-doping, namely Mr. Kapila Jeewantha and Dr. Abdul Muyeen. The course concluded on a successful note.

The first Sport Administration Course for year 2011 was conducted by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka from 1st to 4th December at the Olympic House, Colombo 7. Out of 110 applicants, 35 who are involved in sport administration were selected for the course after an interview. At the end of the four-day course 27 participants were awarded with Olympic Solidarity certificates. The course was conducted by a panel of six resource personnel including four National Course Directors recognised by the IOC, namely Mr. B.L.H. Perera, Mr. Maxwell de Silva, Gp. Capt. Nalin De Silva & Mrs. Olivia Gamage, and two ASMC 2009/2010 qualified facilitators, namely Mr. Nishanthe Piyasena & Brig. T.F. Meedin. The 2010 edition of the Sport Administration Manual issued by the International Olympic Committee was utilised for the first time by NOC Sri Lanka at this course. The course concluded on a successful note. The second Sport Administration Course for year 2011 is scheduled to be held from 13th to 16th December at the Olympic House.
National Olympic Academy Sessions – 2011

The Annual National Olympic Academy Sessions conducted by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka was held from 23rd to 28th November 2011 at the Sri Lanka Tourist Board Holiday Resort in Bandarawela.
As done in the past years, this time also we selected participants aged between 20 and 30 mainly from universities and Armed Forces to attend the sessions. There were 40 participants of which 24 were males and 16 were females.
The sessions were coupled with class room lectures, group interactive sessions, individual presentations and a field trip to induce greater participations and to foster friendship. The location we selected was Bandarawela situated in hill country with a cooler climate and we provided full board and lodging to all participants.
We opened our Academy for participants from SAARC region i.e. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Pakistan this year too and it was most gratifying to note that the Maldives Olympic Committee and Pakistan Olympic Committee responded positively by sending 5 representatives.
Other than the usual panel of Resource personnel, Mr. Hemasiri Fernando – President, NOC Sri Lanka, Mr. Maxwell de Silva – Secretary General, NOC Sri Lanka Mr. B.L.H. Perera – Director, Academic Progrmmes, Mr. Joseph Kenny, and Dr. Shiromi Pilapitya, this year we got new resource persons joined, especially Dr. Benu Gupta, Professor Delhi University, India, Dr. Seewali Jayawickrema and Mr. Nishanthe Piyasena who also conducted lectures on Sports Medicine and Opportunities for Youth & Olympism.
We hope to persist in this and open out sessions to number of young people from South Asian Region.
